All About My Staycation At Nordic Hotel: #MyNordicExperience

Ever been so tired and stressed, that you felt like taking a break and getting away from everything for a while. Well that was how I felt last week, I was under so much stress. My body, soul and mind needed a break. What better way to de-stress than to go for a vacation in your own city and spend the weekend at a hotel that makes you feel like a tourist. A friend who spent some days during her business trip to Abuja city introduced me to the newly opened chic boutique hotel, Nordic Hotel. She was very impressed by the services and hospitality and felt it was going to be perfect for my weekend get-away/staycation. She called it the perfect boutique hotel.

Walking into the warm ambience, sophisticated and all white background of the hotel lobby with beautiful artwork and Scandinavian designs such as Nanna Ditzel, Royal Copenhagen,VIPP,Gubi, Bang&Olufsen etc took me a million miles away from the thought of city life, I was literally blown away. I could have been in Los Angeles, Paris or somewhere else equally as fabulous. I kept asking myself if I was still in Abuja city. I received a wonderful welcome (they called it a Warm Nordic Welcome playing on the contradiction. The Nordic region being a cold place but still giving a warm welcome) when I came into the reception, the receptionist took her time to explain all the facilities in the hotel as my luggage was taken up to my room. As I walked into my room (Junior Suite) I felt so at peace and relaxed.

My room was so spacious and beautiful, it had an all-white background, though a dark calming grey wall behind the bed, designed with minimalist artwork by a Danish artist and had all the amenities you would expect from a luxurious boutique hotel anywhere in the world. Attention to detail, amazing scents, fluffy robes, incredible king sized bed laid in pure white Egyptian cotton linen, a work desk, full-length mirror etc. The bathroom was another interesting element of the room. It also came with a big mirror (you know mirrors are important for my selfies), all needed toiletries, hair dryer, pure white tiles and a glass enclosed rainfall shower. The room also had a balcony to step out on for fresh air.

During my staycation, I took a time out to reply mails and also made some business calls as I indulged in the best coffee ever. Nordic coffee now has my heart and I just cant  stop thinking about the cups they served the coffee in- Royal Copenhagen (they told me the Queen of Denmark drinks from the very same cups- I felt a bit royal too). I also caught up on world news as I watched my favorite news station CNN almost through my stay. It rained most of the time I stayed at the hotel but that made it more peaceful and Zen for me, I took the time to meditate and enjoy the beautiful nature view from my window.

I enjoyed my complimentary breakfast and for lunch I tried a few things on the menu at BluCabana. In particular their sandwiches are some of the best ever.

Nordic Hotel has a combination of 30 rooms over 4 different room categories. It is the first and only hotel in Nigeria to be listed on ( a luxury hotel booking platform) and currently number 1 on TripAdvisor. All guests are given complimentary breakfast from BluCabana, free (!) Wi-Fi, access to the gym and pool and discounted spa treatments. While BluCabana is at the hotel, you do not have to be a guest in the hotel to eat there; I would strongly recommend going to eat there, even if you are not staying at the hotel. Also here the standards and service is of the hook.

Normally when checking out of a hotel, I have at least one flight and a stressful airport hassle to go through, but as I checked out of Nordic Hotel I felt very overjoyed to know that home was just 10minutes away. I was filled with the #nordicfeeling.

Before checking out completely, I requested an Uber from my IPhone, which is so easy to use and get around with in Abuja. All drivers seem to know Nordic Hotel so its easy for them to locate. A porter helped me with my bags to the lobby, where I sat and read a newspaper, enjoyed the ambience and the quiet music, while I waited for my Uber to arrive.

Everything at Nordic Hotel is to die for, the service and ambience is outstanding. The level of comfort and service I received form the staff of Nordic Hotel was just exceptional. They are so professional, friendly, and incredibly helpful. I found my stay at Nordic Hotel incredibly relaxing as it allowed me to escape reality for a while without even leaving my city.

If you are visiting Abuja capital and dreaming of that quintessential western experience, Nordic Hotel is perfect for you. If you also reside in Abuja and you want to take a break from the hassle and bustle, a weekend get-away at Nordic Hotel is just the perfect idea . It is a place where you can feel relaxed. It is peaceful, elegant, sophisticated and most importantly boutique in style; Nordic Hotel makes it to the top of my hotel hotlist. I am definitely going to be visiting again.

  2. I love hotel experience and all. I mean, your bed is made, you get to eat anything you want, you are treated like a queen and so on. I can imagine how much you relaxed. It’s always good to just get away and reduce stress.
Your blog is pretty lovely too and great pictures!

    1. I know right, I felt so relaxed. Thanks Zinny xoxo

  3. Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything. Nevertheless just imagine if you added some great graphics or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and videos, this website could definitely be one of the very best in its field. Awesome blog!|

  4. Lovely. One question I kept asking throughout was, who was your photographer? You got pics of everything.
