One of my favorite liquid to drink is infused water, I’m a water addict, but sometimes it can get so boring. I also often hear my friends say “Rhoda, I hate water” “I don’t like the way it tastes”, I know, I know, sometimes I find water very boring too . Water doesn’t have a taste and maybe therein lies the whole challenge to drinking enough or more water, it lacks flavor. But Studies have shown that drinking water naturally boosts your metabolism that why I drink it regardless. But drinking fruit infused water has been an easy way to increase my water intake. Infused water recipes are inexpensive, have almost zero calories, and taste great too!
Infused water can generally be any combination of fruits, vegetables, and herbs immersed in water. Infused water is also a very powerful tool in your efforts to lose weight and gain better health. I began making and drinking infused water, when I started my healthy journey in 2013.
The best thing about drinking infused water is that you can try any combination of fruits and herbs to create your own recipes. Try adding fruits you really like or some you’ve never tried before. When it comes to making infused water, the sky’s the limit.
To get you started, here are several “menu” options (you can mix/match from these options)
FRUIT
Citrus | grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, tangerines
Berries | strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, cherries
Tropical | pear, pomegranate, mango, pineapple, banana, kiwi,
Melons | cantaloupe, watermelon
Other | apples, grapes, plums, peaches
VEGETABLES
Cucumber, carrots, celery
HERBS
Mint, rosemary, basil, cilantro
SPICES
Ginger, cinnamon
Water
Bottled water, Filtered water
NEXT STEP…
First, add the sliced fruit/vegetables in the glass first
Next, take the herb/spice of choice and gently bruise the leaf , this helps release the natural extracts and oils from the herb.
Lastly, add either bottled water or good filtered water and drink or refrigerate!
